MATERIALS

Art supplies can be very expensive. I encourage you to buy materials as needed based on how you decide to approach each assignment. I also encourage you to reuse found materials and incorporate them into your projects for cutting costs and environmental impacts. However there are some items that you will definitely need for class and those items are listed below.

NEEDED BY NEXT CLASS:  You will want to purchase these locally so you have everything on time. I put them on our class supplies list at Dickblick.com. (look up list for: Beginning Studio 2D at UCCS) so you have an example of what to buy.

- Graphite pencils: One each: 4H, 2H, 2B, 4B
- Willow charcoal (about 5-10 sticks)
- Compressed charcoal (about 3 or four sticks)
- 1 kneaded eraser
- 1 gum eraser
- paper stump blending sticks (various sizes- one small one medium)
- 1 pad 18x24” Newsprint or cheaper sketch paper (usually comes with 75 pages)

NEEDED BY FIRST DAY OF WEEK TWO:  Monday or Tuesday, depending on when your class meets- we'll be making sketchbooks during class.

These are in stock at Meininger's:

- 4 Sheets 22" x 30" Rives BFK paper- White 280 gsm
- 1 Sheet 22" x 30" Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper- WHITE- 90 lb

**** instructions-- carefully tear or cut all sheets into three 10" x 22" pieces; fold and crease each sheet carefully, aligning the corners. You will end up with a stack of fifteen sheets of paper, each one folded in half.

NEEDED BY END OF WEEK TWO:

- 1 pad Nicer Paper (at least 36 pages) , possibly Strathmore 400 series– At least 80lb paper, good for paint
- Small metal pencil sharpener- get a cheap one.
- Ruler – 15-18” with cork bottom
- Compass (for making circles)
- Lyra Graphite Crayons, water soluble, 2B and 6B

NEEDED BY WEEK SEVEN:

- Gouache paints. I highly recommend you buy this  Utrecht Gouache Set of 8 . Otherwise, buy those exact colors separately.

- Assorted Watercolor brushes- synthetic bristles- short handled- in a range of sizes and shapes and sizes.... I highly recommend Meininger's for brushes- they have a great selection and they have a brush sale until February 24.  I will bring in some of my own brushes for you to look at before you buy yours.
This would be a good assortment- one each: 1/4 " flat ;  1" flat ; 1" fan ; 1" mop ; 1/32" liner

MATERIALS COSTS ON THIS LIST: around $125
