1/23 Introductions; read through syllabus; get oriented with blog;  buy all materials labeled NEEDED BY NEXT CLASS. (see materials list); buy text.

IMPORTANT: We will make a sketch book during class next week.  Be sure to arrive to class that day with all sketchbook papers prepared and ready to use (see materials list for details).



WEEK TWO

1/28  LINE AND OBSERVATION;  contour drawing- blind and modified contour

Homework- due next class:

- prepare sketchbook papers
- read chapter on LINE in text (p 2-10)
- due 2/6: Assignment 1: materials tests, contour drawings, sighted contour drawing (still life)..  UPDATE-- DUE 2/11









1/30  Sketchbook Workshop- prepare papers in class to make books on Monday.

WEEK THREE

2/18 PERSPECTIVE

Introduce Assignment 3- COLOR STUDIES:

IN SKETCHBOOK- explained in class:

- Materials Tests
- 2 color wheels
- 2 master studies (one in new palette)

ON 18 X 24" WATERCOLOR PAPER (WILL BE PROVIDED):

- Multiple Views of Pikes Peak: incorporate color; choose a location you can return to at three different times of the day. Paint the same landscape three times, in different light.

- for next class: bring your presentation in progress in whatever format you're preparing it in (bring a thumb drive, laptop, etc)

4/17  Studio Day: work on color & pattern
